आठवें भाव का चन्द्रमा कष्टकारी होता है। जातक वाचाल, सन्देहशील, आत्माभिमानी, उद्विग्न, चिन्तायुक्त, एवं ईर्ष्यालु होता है। जातक क्रोधी, कामी, विकारग्रस्त, प्रमेहरोगी होता है। स्थिरबुद्धि नहीं होता है। चित्त उद्वेग के कारण व्याकुल रहता है। बन्धन से दुखी होता है। दुराग्रही, निर्दय और दीन, कष्टयुक्त-प्रगल्भ, और पापी होता है। देशत्याग करदेने वाला और दयाहीन होता है। राजा और चोरों से संत्रास और भय होता है। युद्ध करने के लिए उत्सुक रहता है। महारोगों का भय, अर्थात् साध्य या असाध्य राजरोगों का भय लगा रहता है। शरीर से रोगी रहता है। जल तत्व प्रधान होने के कारण कफ व्याधियों से ग्रस्त रखता है। शरीर में वायुप्रधान रोग होते हैं। जातक के घर में उत्तमोत्तम अनुभवी डाक्टरों, वैद्यों या हकीमों का आना जाना बना रहता है। शत्रुमूलक बड़ी-बड़ी व्याधियाँ, भय और आपत्तियाँ सदैव लगी रहती हैं। चन्द्रमा स्वगृही हो, शुक्र वा गुरु के घर में हो अथवा बुध की राशि में हो, और स्वयं पूर्णवलवान होने से जातक को श्वास-कास आदि नानाविध दु:ख होते हैं और सदा दु:खी रहता है। "वारिभूता महाव्याधय:" अर्थात् जलोदर आदि जलजन्य (जल तत्व सम्बन्धित) रोग होने की सम्भावना रहती है। नेत्रों के रोग होते हैं शीतज्वर की पीड़ा होती है। अपान विकार (गैस्टिक ट्रबल) होने की सम्भावना रहती है।क्षण-क्षण में मूर्छा रोग होता है। 'वारिभूता भीतय:' अर्थात् जल में डूबकर मर जाने का भय भी होता है। तालाब, कुएँ आदि में डूबकर मर जाने का भय रहता है। जल से भय और अपान विकार (गैस्टिक ट्रबल) एवं जल तत्व सम्बन्धित रोग होने की सम्भावना रहती है। बलवान् शत्रु आक्रमण करें - ऐसा सन्देह भी बना रहता है। जातक बेकार घूमनेवाला होता है। वाहनसुख थोड़ा मिलता है। विवाह के कारण बन्धुओं का त्याग करना पड़ता है। दुर्जनों द्वारा पीडि़त होता है। देश त्याग करना पड़ता है। चन्द्र पापगृह में अथवा पापग्रह से युक्त हो तब तो अशुभफल निश्चय से मिलते हैं। अष्टमभाव में चन्द्रमा पापी ग्रह भी राशि में होने से जातक अल्पायु: होता है। शुक्ल पक्ष में रात्रि में जन्म होने से आठवें स्थान में स्थित चन्द्रमा माता के समान रक्षा करता है।
